Enrich Answers to Clinical Questions using EBM Resources
Learners ask a lot of questions in clinic, many of which will offer you the opportunity to demonstrate evidence-based medicine (EBM) decision making. While EBM may seem prescriptive to some learners, you can show how your answers blend evidence, your clinical experience, and patient preferences. Additionally, by role modeling evidence-based medicine, learners will understand how necessary it is for answering clinical questions.
To achieve this, try using the “think aloud” approach, sharing your thought process as you navigate EBM frameworks. This not only demonstrates how to integrate evidence into practice but also gives learners insight into making well-rounded clinical decisions. Be prepared to identify reliable, pre-appraised resources, such as websites and apps.
Encouraging learners to use EBM resources will add depth to their decision-making process and ultimately improve patient care.
